So I had a thought.. (and it didnt hurt at all)

So I had a thought.. 1794230 hits on this blog..and rising quickly...What if there were a player on the page featuring songs made by the users of this site....promotion like that is hard to come by.

Most of us are under-ground musicians I think that is where the future of music is.
The record labels are all about profits and to few will ever get near thier door... so great music is lost to the world..
I try to take the time to listen to links of artists here like Jose...Threedove..these are talented people who deserve to be heard....and music is really what this scene is all about..

ideas
1) maybe feature an artist ( 1 song it must be good ) weekly.
2) an Audio Pirate Radio station (has a nice ring)
3) a sister site that features Independent artists ( we could send traffic there)
4) your ideas here

maybe someone wants to help with this... ( that would be great )
it just seem a shame to waste 1794230 views...
If a great song is played and no one hears it..does it make a sound

Comments?

hey guys, that's good idea.. but how about this:

have you hread about last.fm? you can upload your music there, then Audiopirate user group would be created and all artists from here who uploaded their music there would be connected with that group.. then, the group radio would play all the tracks of people here, the group player can be easily embeded here and the main profit is, that all the music might also spread among last.fm people and they might like it too

what do you think? it really isnt that complicated as it seems :)

* queue of about 20-30 songs updated approximately: whenever you get around to it / couple times a month

* random song per visit

* NO AUTOPLAY! the fact is: if i want to hear music, i'm probably already listening to music. so i don't want to have to turn off the music every time i visit. or you could have an autoplay checkbox on the player --if someone denies cookies, then they can stuck with the default.

* put up a couple google ads and make a little extra money for yrself

Nice idea... but don't you think there are already lots of great sites out there to share / promote your music already?
I personally have worked in the music industry since the early 90's, for which most of that have been a director for an independent record label - as well as producing music for independent and major labels.
I think though that the comment that record labels are all about profit is a bit misguided.
I can assure you that, apart from the top 4 major labels, running a record label is a labour of love. In this current climate most independent record labels are now running at a loss - you would be surprised that even the most popular labels hardly make enough money to pay their staff let alone the artists.
I think that sites like this are great and are essential in helping musicians get on the ladder towards producing better music.
The investment into developing artists used to come from a record label - now we need to do this ourselves until the music we have made is good enough, or until we have a fan base large enough, for a label not to lose too much money and time promoting it :)
I think this site is perfect as a an underground base for sharing audio tools. Sound Cloud, Myspace are great places to share your works. I have seen several forums like this disappear as they get too popular. Let's not lose this one ;)

Great Ideas!

You should try to do all of them, but it's difficult to know if they gonna work.
All modification need a list of registered users, and if you don't want a huge mount of data on servers, also need to be stored in links like rapidshare or megaupload.
Also concent before upload, like GPL for every song or disc.

Good Luck!!! :D

last.fm is a great idea. we could set up an Audio Pirate "label" and upload songs to last.fm. We could then have an embedded player (with the default setting being OFF) on the top of the main page, or on a floating iframe. i think it should be fairly easy to implement.

@ Anonymous with the one sided comment vs us supposedly "ripping off" developpers.I don't think that it's black or white, more like shades of grey. The major problems is that those companies are trying to sell software as if it was hardware(no it isn't) and it doesn't work and there an oversaturation of apps on the market and since we don't own those apps(license),if we don't like it,then we're fucked because the resale value is not good at all.
Anyways, let them come after us as we're not making any money out of this.
And to conclude,Microsoft admitted that they benefitted from being heavily pirated in terms of exposure,so that's not the biggest problem.
Here @ AudioPirate,we're just exposed to good products and if we like them,we'll buy them, that's it:)

After reading all the comments a rough plan is formulating based on input...
The comments that said things we did not want to hear are important..and are useful tools..and not unsound advise at all..
Thanks for all comments

#1. The name AudioPirate ..well it belongs to him..need his consent to use it..just seems right..Im kinda of a guest here like everone else....(nice name tho)

#2. sister..(or second) site for the tunes.. so we have no real afiliation with this site..

(this site could host a player prolly stolen from the other site)

...the ability for moderated discusion of songs would be good

#3 Songs stored on a site like last.fm or iacmusic.com what ever suits our needs best..

#4 are all styles mixed???
or do we set up categories (a limited #)

#5 must join APRadio site to submit your music????

#6 a temporary place for those who wish to help get together.
To get this done it will take a few people that want to do somthing cool.
Reading the comments, we have the talent..web design guru's..producers..those with radio stations already up and running and we have people that have always wanted to do somthing like this.

#7 Why the station?.... to capture the hits this site has and turn them into listens..

we need Dj's?... I will consult with youngnaymez

may need moderators?..submissions sorted..would be nice to only have the best of an artist not their B-sides..

so...first a place for those who wish to help to go and disguss..

Hay robert, I second that. I had Reason 2.5, bootleg version, and by the time Version 4 came out i paid for my copy. The thing the most people don't seem to get is not every 1 can pay the 500 to 1000, for the prog's. When i could i paid, but if i don't have the bread why should i be deprived of the creativity that others with the cash have. Far as i'm concerned the WORLD ain't fair LIVE WITH IT. Or hide in a closet.

Great Idea. You, or someone could start a networking site on ning.com. They're free for basic features which include song uploads and they are easy to navigate and maintain. I've uploaded songs and even downloaded songs with no problem. Plus it means all the users would have to become free members of ning.com but at least that might deter some of the troublemakers/haters who like to shoot down the dl links just for fun.

I like the idea of featuring like 2 or 3 tracks of artist for a week. This way they get a lot of play on the site. Personally, I don't spend tons of time on this site but I do visit at least a couple times a day just to find out whats new.

If you had like 30 tracks like some people are suggesting, I personally know that I would not go and listen to all of the tracks or even more than a couple.

I guess the only draw back of what I am suggesting is that only tracks that the opinion may be subjective since its only Audiopirate that's picking what will be played. Although, I am pretty sure he would be non-bias and pick tracks that sound good rather than what he likes? Right?

Great idea, but why don't you take it a little further?
Do this radio thing right. Divide it into 4-5 stations with variable genres, and raise a weekly list of 10 songs - let the users pick what they want added to the station.
Songs who get lots of votes but are not selected go over to next week.

I'll gladly help you with mastering the tracks for radio listening. I've the knowledge and gear.
If you're interested, mail me

Raidio said...

Meelo...those are my exact thoughts...
4-5 stations with variable genres (stations being players on the "raidio" page)

raise a weekly list of 10 songs - let the users pick what they want added to the station.
( 10 songs per player would be ideal and user choosen songs is only proper..maybe 1 player has a mix of the best songs...it gets placed on this page)

This will be a legit music station like any other..
I could easily take an existing station and place it on here..But most stations/sites are created with out input from the artists and do not have a system as described by Meelo.
It seems many want this same thing.

(if there is a station like this or someone makes one that would be great)

A player embeded on this high trafic blog and other blogs/web sites will get many hits.

Music Will be heard

from small seeds big things grow...(even if its only a big weed)

I have set up a small forum

If I do this alone...you will only hear polka music..grinn.

HevyArmz said...

I really like the idea. I think it fits with the "purpose" of the audio pirate blog, allowing music to be created, so, allowing a place to play the music only fits.

Jimbob, as someone who works in the music industry, I'm sure you do see the other side, but those of us on this side are looking for an option where we don't sign away any rights to our music. Many of the places one can showcase their music on the internet want you to sign a clause to allow pretty much free use of your music with no compensation.

NOT all, but a good portion do, so it is a difficult decision.

Give us a chance to have our music simply played and we love the idea.

As for "ripping off", that is the comment of the "industry". For me, the software I used is licensed, but I started out using free, demo and keygened software to discover what I felt the most comfortable with.

The idea of placing the final blame on the CEO of blogger, thats just an easy fix, a quick hunt as you may say.

To actually take the time to work on individual sources, thats more difficult, brings in less money as a whole and can wind up being a bigger mess than ever imagined. You are right, the industry can and will hunt if prodded, but they believe in a canned hunt, one that they know they will win, no one else wants to almost kick in the door of a 12 year old blindly.

Seriously, I love the idea and would offer some tunes for rotation.

I believe in keeping it simple in the beginning though, just a means to play music, then as it grows add more features or options.

Perhaps several of the regular visitors can assist with previewing the music submitted.

I also believe that some sort of network could evolve from this, a means to direct the listener to hear more from the artist.......

Anonymous said...

Cool idea, but it will immediately ruin the person's name and future endeavors as it basically says "I made this with warez". No one will want to sign them, no one will want to hire them. If they used an alias, ok, but that doesn't accomplish much since the name used is tainted.

People in the industry really REALLY hate piracy, believe me. Not only would they NOT be interested in your music after the fact, they would also attempt to prosecute if possible in a lot of cases.

Developers and sample companies are always on the lookout for people using their things without a proper license.

Robert said...

I understand that there could be negative repercussions but I went on Redbull music academy's official site and plenty of names are admitting that they started with cracks or still using a few.
Dego from 4hero,said in 2002 that no one he knows buy pc software and that was 7 years ago!!
Anyways,I still think it's a good idea and it's amazing how it create a sense of community.

HevyArmz said...

"it will immediately ruin the person's name"

hmmm, I'm not sure I would agree either way with that statement. I can see how it could happen. If you make all of your music on cracked software and then try to say otherwise, yeah, you have set yourself up.

If you make music, using cracks or not, then sit on it, how do you feel satisfied?

I may not change the world with what I put together, but sitting on it will not complete the circle of what I'm trying to do. I don't put my music together for me, I do enjoy what I put together, but I want others to dance to my creations.

I'm not for using everything possible without paying some sort of compensation, people do need to eat and pay the bills, but you have to start somewhere, how you get from A to B to finished can be many different ways, just depends on your mind set and drive.

I have no idea....I listen to peoples songs all the time... go to any band site.
What we are speaking of here is simply a site that plays music...
A player from that site is placed on this site and hopefully other busy sites so the music does not grow cob webs siting on some dusty part of the internet.
its as legit as moms milk.

As I said before..
"I could easily take an existing station and place it on here."

It is true how ever that it needs to be its own site.

Hey Radio, good to see you got it up and happening.

Only one question ? Are you aware last.fm is owned by CBS, who just bought if for $280 million ?

http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/05/30/cbs-acquires-lastfm-for-280m/

It would be good if one of the more independent companies got a shot. Not a crit, just an observation. Nice work anyways.

DITTO

I WOULD SIT NEITHER SIDE OF THE FENCE BUT AT SOME POINT SOMEONE GOING TO GET "MADE AN EXAMPLE OF".

THIS MAY BE PART OF LONG TERM VISION / IDEA BUT LIFE IS HOPEFULLY A LONG ONE FOR YOU......AND I AM GUESSING YOU WOULDN'T CUT OFF ONE OF YOUR ARMS FOR SOME IDEAS YOU HAD 5-10 YEARS AGO.

PROCEED WITH CAUTION YOUNG JEDI.

best idea is a online Audio Pirate Radio Station playing songs which is has amazing ring to it!!

it could promote unsigned artist and also good for the website

which you people have done an amazing job with.

this seems like the best foward

So I have listened to the tracks that are currently up and at every track I wonder how this was made?

Since this blog focuses on software, I think each submitter should give a blurb on what he used to make the track (synt, application, vst...) this way we are all helping each other.

What ya think?

That is a GREAT idea. any thing i can do to help my email adress is djcid7@yahoo.com. i will also be submitting music.

Jesus what is this:

Basically U want people to tell the world they RIP off companies by downloadin thousands of pounds of software (If you had the hardware replicas it'd cost thousands so the software aint a rip off), thats gonna get them real far.

IDIOTIC Idea.....Magesy is Screwed, Rapidshare is soon to be, & soon the CEO of Blogger will HAVE to change his ways or he'll get fucked.

Multi-millionaire companies rule the world & if their losing millions of potential pounds in dire times, then they'll hunt.

1- filesharing is not piracy
2- all most companies are loving the ideia of this
ex: hi have try Traktor 3.4 for 1 mounth and in the end hi buy the software
3 piracy is you sell copywrigt material
4 piracy is you have a intrenal network like a seedbox
5 link's are removed from rapidshare because it still exist old fhashion companys that have people all over de net to remove their stuff rapidshare, easyshare...

now what really matters is:

this is great and huge ideia keep up suporting the amatores!!

ho and 103ebook's are doing a great impact on p2p thank's now more people knows basics of production (yes i'm that dude wo ask you if hi cod upload)

and last i'm going to stop by more i know a few amatores dj's and productores of psytrance all Portuguese and if you whant i stop by and leave here theyr link's

have a good work keep up and good vibes from Portugal.....
